Dany Torres put Madrid in the mood for Friday’s Red Bull X-Fighters event in the Las
Ventas bullring with a dazzling exhibition of his FMX prowess at the height of the
morning rush hour on a busy plaza in front of the arena.
Dany Torres performed some of his daring flips and trademark tricks
to the delight of rush-hour commuters outside Madrid’s Las Ventas bullring on Wednesday
morning as the defending champion warmed up for Friday’s Red Bull X-Fighters event inside
the historic arena. Flying some 30 meters across the plaza between the metro station and a
central Madrid boulevard packed with commuters, the Spanish ace leaped up to 15 meters
high and showed why he has won two of the last three events in Madrid with the series of
Hundreds of passers-by and motorists stopped to watch the early morning action under
brilliant blue skies and cheered Spain’s freestyle motocross hero as he completed more than
two dozen jumps during the exhibition session over the makeshift ramp set up directly in front
of the Las Ventas arena, a majestic building crowned with the Spanish flag fluttering proudly
in the wind.
“I love to do this exhibition outside Las Ventas because I can see the people on the road over
there driving on their way to work,” Torres said with a smile. “It’s a lot of fun to see that and I
like it when they stop to have a look.”
Torres hoping a big home crowd can help him to a third victory at home in the last four years
to rejuvenate his championship defense. Torres won in 2011 and 2009.
Torres promised to introduce a new trick or two for his fans. “I’d urge everyone to come on
Friday because it’s going to be a special night.”
