Legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff was throwing block parties while other kids were sweating gym class. Today, he's one of the most respected DJs in the history of Hip-Hop. Enjoy a freestyle mix from the maestro here...

"Jazzy" Jeff Townes was born in West Philadelphia in a musical household and he developed a love of music at a very early age. Jeff was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties using his family's basement as his mixing training ground. By the time Jeff had made it to Philly's John Bartram High, his skills as a DJ had progressed to a level that saw him doing shows on the city's block party/ballroom circuit.

Jeff rolled with many crews and emcees around Philly until he met Will Smith (a.k.a. The Fresh Prince) in 1985. Jeff's regular MC was away, so Will stepped on the mic and the chemistry was instant. They shared the same kind of humour and hit it off straight away - a whole host of gold albums, pop star 900 numbers and hugely successful sitcoms followed.

Jeff founded a production facility, A Touch Of Jazz, that also took care of then local talents James Poyser and Vikter Duplaix, sustained his work with Will Smith and released Jill Scott's seminal debut album. Jazzy Jeff continues to stay true to his DJ roots with his solo records, mix tapes, and live shows.
