James Stewart: Supercross World Champion 2009

James Stewart’s X Games ended before it even began.

The world Super X champion crashed in SuperMoto qualifying, meaning that he will miss the rest of the X Games.

“James came around a corner and clipped his shoulder on one of the inside barriers,” Stewart’s team manager Larry Brooks said. “He said he lost the front end and it kind of shot him to the inside.”

More frustrating for Stewart, perhaps, was that the injury was less serious than first feared, with scans showing that the shoulder was not broken, but merely bruised.

“He’s devastated. He’s been looking forward to X Games for a long, long time,” Brooks added. “He was just loving it.”

Despite being a newcomer to SuperMoto, Stewart had been near the top of the qualifying times when he crashed.
