As the January 1, 2010 start of the legendary Dakar Rally approaches, Volkswagen Motorsports has launched a new iPhone application designed to send news, results, videos, and background information from the rally directly to the user’s display.
The application – dubbed “Volkswagen Rally mobile – 2010 Dakar” – is currently available in Apple’s online store free of charge. iPhone users will be kept up to speed about Volkswagen’s five Race Touareg vehicles as they compete in the grueling 5,900-mile race across Argentina and Chile.
The VW Red Bull factory team will be defending their 2009 Dakar title, having been victorious in 10 of 13 stages throughout the rally, ending with South African driver Giniel De Villiers in first and American Mark Miller in second overall.
In addition to daily reports and quotes from the bivouac, the iPhone application provides daily video summaries of the stages, sound bites and photographs. A wealth of background information is also included, from an interactive overview of the Race Touareg 2 to stage information, maps and driver bios. The latest results, including daily classifications and overall standings of the Dakar will be immediately available after the end of the stages.
