Our Man in Cannes isn't one for idle gossip... he's put it to good use here instead.

  • A champagne cocktail at the hotel Du Cap set my friend back 95 Euros. It wasn’t even half a pint.

  • Mick Jagger and Robert De Niro were spotted in a barbecue at Cap d’Antibe on Sunday chatting up two gorgeous Swedish models. Jagger bellowed at film producer Andrew Mysko and CNN producer John Malone for having the temerity to exhale cigarette smoke in his vicinity. In person he looks like an iguana – and an old one at that.

  • Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman have joined Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz for GAMBIT. The film is directed by Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) and based on a screenplay written by Academy Award© winners Joel and Ethan Coen (True Grit, No Country for Old Men)
  • Rian Johnson’s Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt is complete and due out later in the year. A time-travel action thriller involves a killer (Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob of the future. He, along with other so-called Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. Then, he recognises one victim as his future self (Willis), and lets him escape.

  • Crooked House, based on Agatha Christie’s murder mystery novel of the same name and one of her personal favourites, is set to go into production. Academy Award-winning Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) and Tim Rose Price (The Serpent’s Kiss) have adapted the screenplay, while Neil LaBute (Lakeview Terrace) will direct. The ensemble cast includes Matthew Goode (Brideshead Revisited) Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, Tamara Drewe) Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins) and Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects).
