The world’s best surfers are heading to the awe-inspiring wall of water that is Teahupoo and the Billabong Pro Tahiti.
One of the high spots on the ASP World Tour, Teahupoo in Taiarapu/French Polynesia is also one of the most challenging waves of the season – one that’ll give you “a natural enema” as Jordy Smith puts it.
The forecast this year is for some significant swell, which means we could be in for a classic. We catch up with Joel Parkinson, Adriano De Souza, Taj Burrow, Cory Lopez, Julian Wilson and Jordy as they talk about tackling Teahupoo.
And with the world title race still wide open, it’s all to play for in Teahupoo. “There have been four events and four winners so the ASP World Title race is wide open at the moment,” says current tour leader Parkinson. “The first surfer to get a second win up there will have a big advantage moving forward. We’re going to have a pretty crazy run here in the next few months.”
The Billabong Pro Tahiti runs from August 20 – 31.
