Scuderia Toro Rosso has confirmed that Spanish teenager Jaime Alguersuari will return as a driver for the 2010 season.
Last year, the 2008 British F3 champion made the step across from driving in the World Series by Renault to replace four-time Champ Car champion Sébastien Bourdais for the Faenza-based team. The Barcelona-born pilot became the youngest driver in F1 history at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“Considering that he made his debut only halfway through 2009, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with no prior testing, he did a good job, making steady progress throughout the second half of the year, with a mature approach considering he is still only 19 years old,” said Team Principal, Franz Tost.
“This season, he will again face a steep learning curve, as all the circuits in the first part of the season will be new to him. Jaime’s appointment also confirms our commitment to bringing on graduates of the Red Bull Junior Team young driver programme.”
Alguersuari will once again be partnered by Sébastien Buemi meaning both Red Bull’s F1 teams will continue with the same drivers.
