Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner believes his team have taken a ‘massive step forward’ following their exploits in 2009.
The Milton Keynes-based outfit were runners-up to Brawn GP in the World Constructors’ Championship with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber finishing second and fourth respectively in the World Drivers’ standings.
'I think it was a fantastic year for the team and a massive step forward' - Christian Horner
Red Bull truly came of age in Formula 1 last year, picking up 153.5 points as Vettel and Webber recorded six race victories between them, 16 podiums in all.
A delighted Horner told Crash.net Radio: “I think it was a fantastic year for the team and a massive step forward.
"We won our first grand prix and went on to win five others, had four one-two finishes and challenged for the championship until the penultimate round - it's been a great year.
"Ultimately we lost out on the championships, and on reflection perhaps too much ground was lost at the beginning of the year when the Brawn team was making hay whilst the sun shone with the double-diffuser.
"But as soon as we got that onto our car, we pretty much out-scored every other team thereafter."
With Red Bull winning each of the last three races of the season – Vettel won in Japan and Abu Dhabi while Webber was celebrating in Brazil – hopes are sure to be high for the 2010 campaign which begins in Bahrain on March 14.
